Yes. SWIR hyperspectral can penetrate moderate surface contamination. We recommend pre-washing to remove heavy soil (reducing contamination to <5%), then hyperspectral sorting for precise material identification. The system also includes an automatic cleaning module for the optical window to handle dust.
Multi-layer composites have unique spectral characteristics. Our AI model has been trained on common composite structures (PA/PE, EVOH/PE, PET/PE, etc.) and can identify and separate them. Composites are typically directed to dedicated chemical recycling or downcycling streams.
